Not many Australian artists can cite having played Sprung Hip Hop Festival main stage, and appeared on The Project and Today Show before even releasing a CD. But few can ignore the courageous journey of 19yo Nathan Tessman aka MC Wheels, and no one can help but be inspired by this young man’s’ music and live performances, let alone the daily challenges of living with his disabilities. Nathan, who has been in a wheelchair since he was 4, suffers from a rare condition called Giant Axonal Neuropathy which severely affects his ability to perform everyday actions that we all take for granted. Nathan’s condition has no cure, so his future is uncertain and unpredictable.
The official Sunshine Coast launch also features the KrypatmistiK who mix hip hop with a soulful and funk styled backing, delivering their positive messages of respect and intellect mixed with lyrical precision and banging beats. The group have been a mainstay of the Brisbane hip hop community since their conception in 1998 and are one of the unsung heroes of the Australian hip hop underground.
Brothers Bond are also one the lineup; a new collaboration of DJ/Producer Kleen, Emcees Kelz and Kudos. As three of Australia’s most inventive hiphop artists, The Brothers make music that has been described as "Next step Australian Hiphop". Having found underground success with previous solo projects, The Brothers Bond sound is technical, methodical and always with great vision.
